A portion of Kaumuali’i Highway between Lawa’i and Kalaheo will be closed in both directions from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 26. Only emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed along the stretch during that time.

The area of the highway to be closed, for construction purposes, is between the highway intersection with Koloa Road at the entrance to Lawa’i Valley Estates, westbound to the highway intersection with Lauoho Road.
Westbound traffic will be detoured onto Koloa Road and onto Lauoho Road to the area west of the construction area, while eastbound traffic will be moved onto Lauoho Road then Koloa Road, then back onto Kaumuali’i.
A state Department of Transportation Highways Division spokesperson advised motorists to adhere to all traffic and warning signs, and use extreme caution while traveling on the detour roads.
Motorists expected to be traveling in the vicinity of the construction zone during the closure times Saturday are also advised to allow for additional travel time because of the detours.
