WAIMEA – Kapa’a’s Sharlene Carillo and Island School’s Mario Rosa won their respective divisions at the Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation cross country meet at Waimea High School.
Rosa, a junior from Island school, edged last week’s winner Scott Matsumura, finishing first for the boys’ three-mile race in 18 minutes, 15 seconds. Matsumura finished five seconds behind with an 18.20. Waimea freshman Scott Martin took third with a 19.00, and Chad Naganuma (19:04) and Ross Brandeburg (19:04) took fourth and fifth.
The senior Carillo again edged Waimea freshman Rachel Martin in the girls two-mile race. Carillo finished in the time of 13 minutes, 3 seconds. Martin finished with a 13.07. Kaua’i’s Shauna Tachibana took third with a 14.15 and Kassy Morishige (14.16) and Perry Madison (14.27) rounded out the top five.
Kaua’i High won both the girls and the boys meet. The girls finished with 33 points, Kapa’a was second with 39, Waimea was third with 54, Kula was fourth with 94 and Island School came in fifth with 98 points. The Red Raider boys finished with 25 points, Waimea was second with 42, Island School was third with 84, Kapa’a came in fourth with 100 and Kula finished with 131.
Through the top 10: Girls: 6. Kindra Stufleth, Kapa’a – 14.31, 7. Jessica Jacinto, Waimea – 14.35, 8. Jean Juliano, Kaua’i – 14.43, 9. Jennifer Rodello, Kapa’a – 14.45, Juliet Jones, Kula – 14.51.
Boys: 6. Cody Kimura, Kaua’i – 19.16, 7. Nathan Martin, Waimea 19.17, 8. Ben Kimura, Kaua’i – 19.49, 9. Collin Dana, Waimea – 19.59, 10. Aaron Fujimoto, Kaua’i – 20.13.
