High surf forced the County of Kaua’i to close some North Shore beaches on Friday.
The county’s Ocean Safety Bureau closed beaches from Hanalei to Polihale at 9 a.m. Friday due to high surf conditions.
Kalani Vierra, OSB supervisor, is urging the public to exercise caution and stay out of the water in the closed beach areas.
“Our lifeguards have reported sixty-foot wave faces on the North Shore,” Vierra said. “The giant, storm surf is extremely dangerous.”
Beach closures are set to be reevaluated this morning, though the swell is expected to last through the weekend.
