Curves for Women will open its doors tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 9, at Dynasty Court in Kukui Grove Village West, and the focus will be on women’s fitness and fun, said owners Renee and Lyle Otsuka.
Curves for Women’s unique exercise program, Quikfit, is all about making it easy for women to lose excess pounds and inches while maintaining their own exercise routine, they said.
The program begins with a confidential figure analysis. Women are asked their goals, and how they want to look, and then a custom-tailored program is planned.
After a weigh-in, other measurements are taken, and monitored once a month. Participation in a 30-minute, circuit workout program at least three times a week leads to the goal of building muscle and increasing metabolism.
By building muscle, the body burns calories more efficiently, and the results are loss of weight and inches. The most important benefit, however, is better health, said the Otsukas.
Renee Otsuka says she got the idea from her mother, Naomi Baclaan, of Honolulu, who started the program after being diagnosed with osteoporosis.
Renee Otsuka’s mother had never participated in an exercise program before she began walking and, later, joined Curves for Women.
Within a few months, she was feeling better, and discovered renewed energy, Renee Otsuka reported.
“It’s important that women take care of their health no matter what their age,” Renee Otsuka said. Keeping with that mother-daughter theme, she is encouraging women to bring their daughters 13 and older to the outlet for a bit of healthy bonding, and is offering a special student rate.
The workout equipment is designed for women of all ages, and uses hydraulics, with no weights to lift. Women build strength by increasing the speed of their repetitions on the various exercises of the circuit.
Renee Otsuka says the program is specifically designed for women who are self-conscious about working out around men.
Renee Otsuka’s sister, Roxanne Baclaan, manages the operation, and has a special contest effective on opening day for the person who loses the most weight in the center’s first month of operation.
Participants can expect weekly prize drawings, and something new every month to encourage the pace. The sisters agree it’s important to keep it fun for the women.
“After all, girls just want to have fun, and Curves for Women offers a great combination of fun and fitness,” they said.
There are more than 3,000 Curves for Women locations throughout all 50 states and four countries. Members who sign up for a share draft program are eligible for travel passes to other Curves for Women locations.
