POIPU – The National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) will kick off its first contest of the season at P.K’s in Poipu August 24 and 25.
Andy Irons, Bruce Irons and Rochelle Ballard are just a few of the world’s best surfers who grew up as young students in what has become the most prestigious national amateur organization on the island. The Kauaians went on to win national titles in NSSA events, which have provided competition for students of all ages on the island for the past 25 years.
At P.K’s the tradition will continue. The Beach House restaurant will continue its sponsorship of Kauai’s initial event, and many other companies and organizations will continue to support youth scholastic surfing for the upcoming season.. Interested surfers and body boarders can pick up entries to NSSA events at Hanalei Surf Company, Progressive Expressions in Koloa or at Nukumoi Surf Company in Poipu. The entries must be turned in no later than August 21 for the premiere event.
