The Kauai Fire Department responded to a call for help from kayakers who were stranded on the Wailua River following a flash flood.
At approximately 11:52 a.m. this morning, dispatch received a call that a woman had broken her leg during a kayaking trip.
Fire rescue unit station two responded immediately and reached the kayakers, who were stranded at the first fork in the Wailua river.
The rescue unit had to wait until the waters receded before moving the injured woman to Kamokila Village, where an ambulance was waiting.
The rest of the group, approximately 16 kayakers in all, waited for the waters to further recede and returned to the rivermouth at approximately 2:30 p.m. today.
