Garden Isle Racing Association NHRA Drag Racing – Aug. 11th.
Garden Isle Racing Association will host NHRA championship drag racing Sunday, Aug. 11 at Kauai Raceway Park in Mana. The racer’s gate opens at 8 a.m., time trials begin at 9 a.m. and competition begins at 1 p.m.
This race will feature the NHRA Castrol Jr. Drag Racing Challenge. Sunday’s Jr ET winners will receive special prizes and will also be covered in the National Jr. Dragster News.
Sunday’s event will include racing open to all street legal cars and licensed drivers in Street ET and Super Street ET with speeds up to 120 MPH.
Sunday’s racing will also include Pro ET race cars capable of speeds of more than 150 MPH.
After five races in the 2002 season, Jim Rosa leads the Pro ET class, Matt Pancho and Bill Winningham are tied for the lead in the Street ET class, and the Super Street ET points race is lead by Riley Takayama.
Additional races are set for Saturday Night, Sept. 14; Sunday, Oct. 6, and Saturday Night, Nov. 9.

Hawaii Youth Soccer Association to hold ODP Tryouts
The Hawaii Youth Soccer Association is having tryouts for the Island district Olympic Development Program (ODP) team today and tomorrow.
They will be held at Island School soccer fields. The tryouts are open to players born from 1985-1990 for boys and 1986-1990 for girls.
The US Youth Soccer ODP is a national identification and development program for high level players. The program identifies and develops youth players throughout the country to represent their state association, region and the United States in soccer competition.
ODP teams are formed at the state association and regional levels, made up of the best players in various age groups.

Ed Ho Swim Meet this weekend
The West Kauai Lions Club is once again sponsoring the Annual Ed Ho Swim Meet at the Waimea Swimming Pool on August 10, 2002.
Registration starts at 9 am and the meet for youth 17 and under starts at 10 am. Those interested in participating can either call Naoko Ho at 338-1877 or meet at the at the swimming pool.
