The Anahola HorseShoe Club hosted the Hawaii State Doubles Horseshoe Pitching Championship, a one day event which was held on Kaua’i for the first time in 13 years. During the 13 years, the doubles event was held on Oahu.
The event was held July 7 at the Anahola Horseshoe site.
In the Divison 1 bracket, Russell and Bunny Callahan of Waianae took first place; Keoni Frias of Maile and Lopaka Kamoku of Anahola took second place.
In the Division 2 bracket, Wayne VerHaagh of Wailua and Uncle Peter Piilani of Hanalei teamed up to win the championship; Howard Kamoku, Sr. of Anahola nad Daniel Denny of Kapa’a took second in the division.
After a round robin of play, the 2002 doubles tournament champions were Lynn Carson and Kimo David of Waimanalo, Oahu.
