Kalaheo’s Cory French came back from a first round 76 to shoot an impressive 73 in round two, which was good enough for second place in the Boys 13-16 division of the 2002 Westfield Junior PGA Championship at Honolulu Country Club on Tuesday.
French shot 149 for the two rounds, one stroke back from Honolulu’s Kurt Nino and tied with Aiea’s David Hahn.
Allan Baab shot a 77 to close out the second round of the 2002 Westfield Junior PGA Championships. He was two strokes from the leader at 150 for the two rounds.
Others from Kaua’i in the division: Jordan Cox (80, 77) shot a 157; Kellen Watabu (84, 77) shot a 161; Bret Netzer (85, 78) finished with a 163; Chad Nonaka (84, 80) had a 164, along with Sean Oagawa (84, 80); Mike Garcia (84, 86) and Layne Morita (91, 79) each shot a 170; Stephen Peeren (89, 86) finished with a 175; Noel Torres (85, 92) shot a 177; TJ Kua (86, 92) a 178; Brandon Hirota (90, 90) a 180; Jet Levinthol (93, 88) a 181; Cyrus Ogawa (96, 91) finished at 187.
For the 16-17 boys, Kapa’a’s Juston Thomas improved two strokes from his first to second round to shoot a 152 – seven back from Hilo’s Gabriel Wilson (74, 71 – 145) and seventh on the scoreboard.
Lehua Wise ignored an 82 first round and notched a 76 on Tuesday to move up to fourth place in the girls 16-17 division. Her 158 score was six strokes off leader Kristen Higa of Hilo.
