It will be hard for anyone not to notice Keenan Anaya when he is introduced to KIF swimming.
Mokihana Aquatic’s star swimmer, who again provided Kauai’s principal swim club with its most substantial point total (23) at a state caliber meet, qualified for five finals events and placed nowhere below sixth in each of them at the State Longcourse Championships in Kailua last weekend.
Anaya placed fourth in the finals of the Mens 13-14 200-meter freestyle, swimming the event in the time of 2:26.60.
He made the finals in the Men 13-14 100-meter butterfly, which he took fifth with the time of 1:09.52. He also took fifth in the 200-meter butterfly. He swam that race in 2:47.34.
Anaya also took sixth in two more finals at the Longcourse Championships: The first in the 100-meter freestyle, which he finished in the time of 1:03.33, and also the 50-meter freestyle, which he completed in the time of 29.19.
Although these state level meets have had the best blocks to gauge Anaya’s swimming abilities, they always take place off-island. Only at the high school level will fellow Kauaians be able to see what Keenan can do.
And when he hits those blocks at Kaua’i High School in front of a the KIF crowd, this kid will surely turn heads.
