The first day of the 2002 KYBA Boys 14-Under Basketball Tournament took place Friday at Kalaheo Neighborhood Center Gymnasium, and two Kauai teams were able to pick up opening day wins in what began as a three-game series.
Futi Tavana scored 14 points to lead Kauai Basketball to a 53-48 win over Kaimuki Community Park.
Brenton Lee scored 24 points for Kaimuki.
In the second game on Friday, Ked Wright and Ikaika Hardie each put up 24 points to lead Kalakaua A-C to a 60-49 win over Lihue.
Kevin Cadiente scored 15 points for Lihue.
And in the final game on Friday, Justin Estes and David Shea each notched seven points to hand West Kauai a 37-35 win over the Makakilo Knights.
For the Knights, Cameron Moody scored seven points.
