Lopaka Harris, 30, of Hanapepe, was sentenced to 10 years incarceration for the first-degree attempted burglary of a police officer’s home.
Harris was unable to complete the burglary because after breaking a glass window on Nov. 15, he suffered a laceration and lost so much blood that he required medical attention.
When questioned by police, Harris admitted that he wanted to break into the officer’s home to steal a firearm to use to shoot another officer he felt had wronged his girlfriend’s family.
Harris entered his guilty plea to the charge on March 21.
Kysen Palmeira, 22, of Kapa’a, was sentenced to a five-year term of probation. The terms of probation include one year incarceration, 400 hours of community service and enrollment in a substance abuse and mental health treatment program.
Palmeira was convicted of three counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and one count of felony theft.
Two of the UCPV charges were for stealing the same truck on two different occasions. Palmeira entered his guilty pleas on March 21.
Erica Luce, 25, of Kapa’a, was sentenced to a five-year term of probation for felony second-degree theft and nine one-year terms of probation for misdemeanors relating to fraudulently obtaining welfare benefits.
Conditions to Luce’s probation include monthly repayments to the State totaling $7,297; 500 hours of community service; and disqualification from Food Stamps benefits for one year.
If Luce violates the conditions of probation, she will be subject to resentencing and would face up to five years incarceration. Luce plead guilty to the charges March 19.
