A total of ten football teams comprised of youngsters between the ages of 5 and 10 years old opened their flag football season with games at the New Kapa’a Ball Park on Saturday.
Youngsters aged between 5 and 7 years old make up the Cubs division with children aged 8-10 years old filling in the Bobcats class in the program hosted by the Kaua’i Pop Warner Football Association.
According to a Pop Warner official, there are five teams in each division with Lihu’e fielding two teams in both age groups. Koloa has a team in each group along with Kapa’a, and for the first time, the Northshore district is fielding teams in each division. Kekaha has no teams participating in this program.
Starting time for each Saturday’s games are 9, 10, and 11 a.m. with both age groups playing at the same time.
Abraham Makanui is the president of the Kaua’i Pop Warner Football Association with Leon Gonzalves as the comissioner. Les Hiranaka is the League Manager.
This coming Saturday, June 8 will see the teams compete at the Anne Knudsen Park in Koloa.
