The Kaua’i High School Red Raiders held an awards banquet recently, which honored its top athletes for the 2001-2002 year.
Tiana Lum-Tucker pulled in quite a few awards, starting with Femal Scholar Athlete of the Year. She also was commended for her Nissan Hall of Honor selection, her All State Volleyball selection by the Honolulu Star Bulletin, and the HHSAA Tennis medal she received with Kareen Konishi in their third place finish at the State Championships. She also received MVP honors for tennis and volleyball.
Chasen Komoto received Male Scholar Athlete of the Year. Lionel Tomacder received the Male Outstanding Athlete award; he was also received MVP honors for Volleyball and Basketball. Rena Kido received Female Army Reserve Scholar Athlete, along with an MVP award for tennis.
Jason Sahara received Male Army Reserve Scholar Athlete of the Year. He also earned MVP honors for basketball and volleyball. For other MVP awards: Scott Serizawa is the MVP for baseball. Aaron Medina and Kelsi Sakai notched MVP honors for bowling. Marissa Bonilla is the cheeleading squads Most Valuable Player, and Kevin Baron and Shauna Tachibana are Cross Country MVP’s.
Dustin Goias is the Red Raider football team’s Most Valuable Player. Erick Wong and Lehua Wise are Golf’s MVPs. Chryle McClurg received the top honor for Riflery, and Randy Gaoiran is the MVP for the Red Raider soccer team.
Pitcher Sarah Yoshikawa notched the MVP award for Kaua’i softball. Feltcher Parker and Amanda Scheppers are the swimming team’s MVPs. Luke Evslin and Donna Robles received top honors for paddling. Jordan Kukino was the other MVP for tennis, and Jonathan Arakaki, Bryson Semana, Kandice Cummings and Tachibana are the Track MVPs.
