The Kauai Police Department has confirmed the identity of the island’s third traffic fatality of the year, Sterling Kalama Nobriga, 31.
Nobriga died Friday at Wilcox Memorial Hospital from injuries suffered in an accident that occurred in the early morning hours of Wednesday, May 29.
The single-car accident occurred along Rice Street between the entrance to the Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club, and the Rice Street intersection with Kapule Highway.
KPD Lt. Stanton Koizumi said speed was a factor in the crash, and that Nobriga, who was ejected from the vehicle and suffered facial and skull injuries, was not wearing a seat belt.
Funeral services are pending.
