Kauai’s Tiana Lum-Tucker, following in her brother’s footsteps, and Waimea’s Abraham Apilado are among the 12 student-athletes chosen for the Class of 2002 Hawaii Nissan Hall of Honor.
Selections for the Hall are made based on athletic and academic achievements, and character.
Lum-Tucker excelled in six sports for the Red Raiders: volleyball, tennis, soccer, cross country, track and swimming. Apilado excelled at football and track and field.
Joining the two are:
Brent “Ikaika” Alama-Francis, Kalaheo, basketball and volleyball;
Brandon Ala of Kamehameha. track
Mahie Atay, Baldwin, basketball and Star-Bulletin state player of the year in soccer;
Bart Thomas Casco, Lahainaluna, football and wrestling;
Lauran Dignam, Iolani, cross country, soccer and a five-time gold medalist in track;
Jarett Hamamoto, Waiakea, two-time prep golf champion;
Todd Iacovelli, Punahou, cross country and double gold medalist in this month’s track;
Tyler Perkins, Kamehameha, football, baseball and track;
Ashley Ruff, Kamehameha, softball, soccer and a member of this year’s state basketball champion team;
Ashley Swart, Kaiser, cross country, swimming and track.
The 12 will receive a $2,000 scholarship and a Hall of Honor ring. The awards banquet is scheduled for June 2 at the Ilikai. For information call 837-6036.
