Bike Event for Memorial Day
Memorial Day, May 27th, Bike Kauai will hold their first bicycle event of the summer. The 2nd annual Tour of Kauai will give riders a choice of a 25, 50, or 100 mile course. This is a non-competitive event and last year 27 people turned out for the first Tour of Kauai and a good time was had by all. The course started in Lihue and went out to the Westside and returned to Lihue. This year’s course will change slightly to avoid the double back that was necessary to get the 100 miles that most riders signed up for. This year the course will go up to Wailua Falls in the beginning and also have a Waimea Canyon option for those who feel the need for the extra effort.
There will be roving support on the course. This is a non-competitive event. Bike Kauai is sponsored by Bicycle John and hopes to hold more events in the summer months. Bike Kauai events are open only to members of the club in order to keep insurance cost down. Club membership is only $10. There is a $5 fee for the event to pay for support. This year will be prizes awarded in various categories such as friendliest, most fashionable, and the Iron Okole award for the last rider. Riders will vote for the winners. Trophies and gift certificates will be awarded.
Participants must sign up at least one day before the event. Sign ups will be only done at Bicycle John in Lihue. For more information, call 245-7579 or e-mail bicyclejohn@bikekauai.com.
