The Irons family express the reasons for starting the Andy and Bruce Irons Pine Trees Classic:
Bruce and Andy Irons were born and raised in Hanalei. The bay made them the surfers they are today and remains their source of inspiration and power. It is the place they return to reconnect with what they love about surfing between their travels around the globe as two of the world’s top professional surfers.
The Irons Brothers’ Pine Trees Classic is the brothers’ first formal attempt to give back to the place that has given them so much. The nature of the event is grassroots and focuses on the youngest of Kauai’s up and coming surfers. The event emphasizes participation, fun and the spirit of surfing.
It is a chance for Kauai’s young surfers to spend the day performing under the watchful eye of two of their own, surfers who started out just like them, young and stoked, and who maintain that their success is fueled by their love for the ocean and the energy that it gives.
The event is also an opportunity for the Irons brothers to thank the community of Hanalei for their support over the years and to give the town an opportunity to gather at Pine Trees in celebration of surfing and the great positive influence and healthy outlet it can be for their kids.
The event is free and includes a catered lunch for all participants generously provided by the Hanalei Gourmet Deli.
Gift and prizes have been generously donated by Bruce and Andy’s sponsors – Billabong, HIC, Arnette, Body Glove, Volcom, DC, Boost, Red Bull, Saver Cross, Local Motion, Nixon, Da Vine as well as local Hanalei businesses. Random drawings throughout the day ensure that everyone has a chance to be a winner.
