The state Department of Transportation is scheduled to hold an informational meeting on the draft plan of the Hawai’i Statewide Transportation Plan (HSTP).
Kaua’i’s informational meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at the State Office Building on Thursday, April 18.
The HSTP provides a framework for transportation planning and defines its goals and objectives, according to the DOT. Hawai’i’s transportation goals, organizational structure and planning-related issues will be discussed at the meeting.
The Department of Transportation explains five transportation goals in the HSTP draft:
– Achieve an integrated multi-modal transportation system that provides mobility and accessibility for people and goods;
– Ensure safety and security of the air, land and water transportation system;
– Protect and enhance Hawai’i’s unique environmental and improve its quality of life;
– Support Hawai’i’s economic vitality;
– Implement a statewide planning process that is comprehensive, cooperative and continuing.
The HSTP provides a context for the development of programs, that when implemented, will help achieve one or more of Hawai’i’s transportation goals.
The Department of Transportation stated in the draft that public involvement and input is key to the planning process.
