What started out as an anonymous tip with some rather specific details about alleged wrongdoing in the Lihu’e area has morphed into advice from the Kauai Police Department.
That advice, from Assistant Chief Gordon Isoda, is to deal with known, reputable, licensed contractors in all consumer-related matters.
The KPD Crime Stoppers line (241-6787) got an anonymous call Wednesday about a suspected unlicensed contractor or business operating out of a van in the Lihu’e area.
Police are investigating, and Isoda suggests would-be consumers ask to see business licenses of anyone offering services. Certain businesses are also required to have state licenses to legally operate in Hawai’i.
The tip included names and descriptions of two men, license-plate number of the van, and a telephone number gleaned from a magnetic vehicle sign.
Anyone with any additional information about this, which police suspect may be an unlicensed business operation, should call Crime Stoppers.
Callers need not give their names, and if the information they provide leads to an arrest, callers may qualify for cash rewards offered by the Kauai Chamber of Commerce.
