An early morning fire today destroyed a boathouse and storage container but spared a Lihu’e home, according to a report from the office of Mayor Maryanne Kusaka.
The Kauai Fire Department responded to the call at approximately 1:08 a.m. Tuesday morning in the Kupolo subdivision. When firefighters arrived, the two structures were fully engulfed. A 28-foot boat that was inside the boathouse was also destroyed.
The house, which was about 20 feet away, was not damaged and no one was injured.
A fire department investigator estimates about $150,000 in damages occurred. An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
