HONOLULU – The public will soon be able to voice their opinion on the merger of Aloha and Hawaiian airlines to a state senate committee.
Senator Ron Menor, chair of the Hawaii State Senate Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection and Housing, has announced that his committee and the Senate Committee on Transportation, Military Affairs, and Government Operations, chaired by Senator Cal Kawamoto, will hold an informational briefing on Kaua’i.
The focus of the meeting will be the implications for consumers and businesses in Hawai’i once the merger is complete.
The briefing will be held in the Kauai County Council Chambers on Friday, March 8 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The meeting is one of a series being held on the Neighbor Islands.
The committee is asking that comments on the issue be submitted in writing so they can be reviewed for future reference during the legislative session.
In a prepared statement Menor said: “Neighbor Island residents will be affected most by any changes in the number of flights and increases in interisland air fares and air cargo rates. Because the potential economic impact from changes in these would be felt more by those living outside of O’ahu, we want them to share with us any concerns they have or proposals to avoid potential negative outcomes.”
