The National Football League recognizes this and is again supporting an essay contest for Kauai’s youth.
u Criteria:
The essay length should be a minimum of one page and must be typed as well as double-spaced.
The topic selected must fall within the Department of Education’s curriculum, and should have a basic theme of what was learned at the NFL Quarterback Challenge event being held Thursday, Feb. 8 at Vidinha Stadium.
u Examples of acceptable topics: Health & Safety: What was observed/learned in the applicability of how the quarterbacks conducted themselves in this discipline?
– Marketing & Merchandising: How appealing are their uniforms and if you had the opportunity, how would you design their attire?
– Mathematics: Did any of their actions fall within this category that amazed you and led you to some challenging calculations?
– History: How did this event come to Kaua’i? What did any research reveal to you? How would you have approached the challenge of bringing such an event to the island?
– English Literature: Did this event move you to write a short story or poem? Share it! It might be published.
-Journalism/Television Broadcasting: What ideas do you have that could improve or evaluate how this portion of the event was handled.
u Categories:
There will be three age categories within the parameters of the essay contest: Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8 and Grades 9-12. When sending in your entries, please indicate your grade level and what school you attend.
uThe Prize: The National Football League will provide prizes, and winning essays will be published in The Garden Island.
Winners also will read their essay live over the radio.
Entries must be received no later than Friday, Feb. 16, 2001.
