Just two days ago, this sports editor was hopping up and down like someone who just won the lottery after hitting a par on the 17th hole at Wailua’s Golf Course.
It was the best hole I ever played.
On Thursday, Paul Kuribayashi did even better. The 50-year-old Poipu resident used a 5-wood to sink the 17th hole in one shot, an impressive eagle for a round in the Thursday Club Tournament. According to witnesses, the ball bounced once on the green, pushed the flag-pole aside and dropped right where the sun don’t shine.
Kurbayashi, a businessman, has been doing this for 20-years.
2002 Mercedes
Title run in Maui
An elite field of 33 PGA Tour professionals are competing in the 2002 Mercedes Championship at the Kapalua’s Plantation Course in Maui on January 3-6 with victories during the PGA Tour 2001 official money season.
Among the scheduled players are defending champ Jim Furyk, Tiger Woods, Davis Love, Justin Leonard, and David Duval.
The tournament will take place Thursday, January 3 through Sunday, January 6.
