Waimea scored four runs on four hits in the fourth-one a two RBI home-run blast from #12-to beat the Kapa’a Warriors 6-1 at Waimea Canyon Ballpark, last night.
Pitcher #18 struck out four, walked three and gave up only four hits in seven innings for the Menehunes, who extended their KIF league record to 2-0.
But she didn’t do it alone.
The Menehune infielders stifled the Warriors’ offensive production, leaving eight runners stranded and committing zero errors in the contest.
The action didn’t pick up until the top of the third, when Kapa’a left fielder #3 smacked a lead-off single, and #15 brought her home on a line-drive triple that gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
Waimea would answer at the bottom of the third.
#5 chipped a 2-foot bunt for a single, #1 followed with a floater to left-center for another base-hit, and #12 singled on a grounder down the middle to juice the bases. #20 smacked a line drive shot, driving in #5, and a bobbled ball in the Warrior outfield gave #1 the green light for the second run of the inning.
Waimea took a 2-1 lead going into the fourth.
Then things got sticky for the Warriors.
Three errors capped a four run inning for the Menehunes, who got two #3 steals, hits from #6 and #12, and a home-run from #12 that gave the Menehunes a 6-1 cushion heading into the seventh inning.
