Current Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) world number six Andy Irons (HAW) won his opening round heat to advance to round two of the Rip Curl Cup at Sunset Beach on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii yesterday.
Irons beat Brazilians Neco Padaratz and Marcello Nunes in round one. Irons won the first event in the Triple Crown series, the G-Shock Hawaii Pro at Haleiwa last week.
The Rip Curl Cup is the final stop on the World Championship Tour (WCT) and the second event of the Vans G-Shock Triple Crown of Surfing held on the North Shore of Oahu with US $500,000 in prize money. From Sunset Beach, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing will migrate along the North Shore to Pipeline for the final event in the series, The Xbox Pipe Masters, a specialty event featuring selected invitees from December 8-17
