Hanalei S.C. gets 4-2 win over Westsiders
After a long five months off, the players of both teams were foaming at the mouth for some organized soccer.
With all the muscle strains healed, the pace was fast in the opening game of the season.
Hanalei S.C. was the first to tally a score when Juan Perez received a pass from Tom Green on the run, which he chipped over the charging Westside keeper.
However. it didn’t take long for the Afterburners to even things up.
Westside’s Adrian Nichols crossed the ball to the diving head of attacker Mark Perales for a brilliant score.
The teams left the field at half time all tied up.
The next forty-five minutes would decide the victor. Westside quickly took the lead by scoring with another header from Mark Perales, who leaped over his defender and tipped the ball up just enough to clear the approaching goalie.
Hanalei stepped up with three unanswered goals.
The first came from Tom Green, who beat the goalie one on one for the score. The second came from a free kick. Juan Perez bent around the wall of players, using the heavy Kona winds to his advantage, and buried it in the top left corner. Then the final scorer was once again Tom Green, who got the rebound of a shot from Kola Lindmann, which dribbled away from the keeper on to Toms awaiting foot.
Hanalei S.C. wins their season opener, 4-2.
