The Kaua’i Red Raider ladies could haves stayed home last night and still won the KIF title.
But they figured, why not tag one more “W” in the win column, and so they beat the Kapa’a Warriors 15-1, 18-16, giving them a perfect season.
This brought their record to 9-0, and a chance to make a name for themselves at the state level.
The collective efforts of the league’s most valuable asset, Tiana Lum-Tucker, and a highly regarded crew consisting of Tiare Toulon, Ashley Tanaka, Ashley Kawaihalau, Kehaulani Regidor, Kandice Cummings, Kareen Konishis and company, dominated the KIF season in the worst of ways.
In fact, they only lost one single game to Waimea (they would win the game in three), a team who also had incredible talent.
The KIF had no chance against the Red Raider ball club.
They are proof that legacies-this one previously owned by the Menehunes-can be definitively overcome with time and effort.
What’s worse for the rest of this league is that Kaua’i’s J.V. girls, who lost a meaningless game last night, have also captured the KIF crown.
Will these young ladies carry on what the upperclassmen have already begun? Maybe. We will have to see.
But for now, the collective group of high school volleyball girls, of all grades, can revel in the glory of their near perfect seasons.
