Pu’uwai Canoe Club will present thisfun canoe race on Sunday November 11, 2001. The races will be held at the Wailua River in Kapaa. teams sponsored by local businesses willpaddle and compete in 1/4-mile events. The events will start at 9 am. The purpose of this event is to promote friendly competition betweenmembers of the Kauai Business Community and give people an opportunity toexperience a traditional Hawaiian Sport.
Each team will consist of fivepaddlers. We supply the canoe, thepaddles and a steersperson. Paddlers donot have to work for the sponsoring business. There will be three categories: Men, Women and Mixed.
Classifications: Novice B, Novice A, Open , Mixed OpenMaster Crew (age 40 and over).
Entry is $100.00 per crew entered. Trophies and individual awards will bepresented for first, second and third places crews.
Pu’uwai Canoe Club canoes will be availableupon request for practice. Please call 635-6311 for appointments. Entry forms and other information areavailable by calling 635-6311 or 822-4993. There will be a twenty-four hour pre race deadline for entries.
HPAF looking for teams to sponsor
The Hawaii Police Athletic Federation (HPAF) is looking for additional youth athletic teams, clubs or organizations to sponsor.
If your group needs help with activities, games, clinics or competitions or need funding for uniforms or equipment, they can qualify for assistance from the HPAF.
Mail your requests in writing and include a description of your group, the type of assistance your group needs and contact information to P.O. Boz 1842, Lihue, HI, 96766.
The deadline for submission is January 1, 2002.

Tickets are now available for the 2001 PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which will take place for the 8th consequtive year at Poipu Bay Golf Course on Kaua’i’s south shore.
The PGA Grand Slam is a 36-hole stroke-play tournament conducted over two days, Nov. 20 and 21, preceded on Nov. 19 by a Pro Am tournament.
Tickets are priced at $10 for the Pro Am, $20 for first round play and $20 for final round play. Or you could get a $40 ticket covering all three days.
