Last year Kaua’i’s Red Raider volleyball team brought down a Menehune legacy.
This year they are pioneering a legacy of their own.
This became increasingly apparent last night, after they defeated Waimea in two games: 15-8, 15-8.
Fueled by the dynamic fire-power of Kaua’i’s Tiana Lum-Tucker, the Red Raiders have shown the league, thus far, a frightening consistency that has placed them as an unparralelled front-runner for this year’s KIF crown.
The Red Raiders came out strong in the first, jumping to a 7-0 lead behind Lum-Tucker’s two aces and three kills (she would slam a total of 13 kills for the night).
The Menehunes began to chip into the initial lead in the first, backed by solid play from mid-blocker Virginia Aguilar and outside hitter britnee Boeder.
But down the stretch, the Red Raiders were too much for Waimea’s blockers.
Kaua’i would eventually take the first game and roll through the second in similar fashion.
Kaua’i will look to continue their winning ways against Kapa’a this coming Wednesday at their home gym.
Junior Varsity
Kaua’i High School Junior Varsity Venessa Machado goes for an impressive low dig from the back row in the third game of their three-game set for Waimea.
The girls JV game was tight all the way through to the end, where Kaua’i came from behind to take it 16-8, 15-9, 13-11.
The boys JV game was also a scorcher, ending in three sets with Kaua’i on top, 9-15, 15-13, 14-12.
The boys varsity ended in two after an overtime win by Waimea. It concluded a night filled with tight games in KIF Volleyball.
