It went down the same way last week as it did last night.
Kapa’a came out strong on defense, but lacked any production on offense.
Except this time it wasn’t against Kaua’i. It was against a power-running Waimea, who blanked the Warriors 31-0.
The Warriors were able to stuff the Menhunes following the opening kick-off, shedding some light of hope at the onset of the game.
But after Warrior quarterback Dustin Mundon fumbled the ball on Kapa’a’s first offensive play, the Warriors looked lost throughout the rest of the game.
Waimea displayed a relentless ground assault that accumulated to over 230 yards. The Menehune defense held the Warriors to only 10 yards of total offensive production after three quarters and literalliy finished them off with a fourth quarter Lanikai Kanahele touchdown dash with only a few ticks left on the clock.
It was gruesome.
The Warriors offensive line couldn’t create openings for RB Dahson Gonzales and often had Mundon running for his life.
Although the Warrior defense stayed strong it couldn’t stop the Menehune down the stretch.
Martin Antonio caught the first TD for five yards. Kalima Leong added a 30-yard field goal. Chris Baltazar added a 5-yard touchdown run and Chang Wo caught a gorgeous 31-yard touchdown pass.
