Internal Revenue Service agents seized a house at 4591 Kuawa Road in Kilauea Tuesday.
In addition to the seizure, agents searched the residence belonging to Michael Zapara, authorities said.
Zapara, who lived on the North Shore and was involved in polo and other activities, is in a federal jail in California on suspicion of tax fraud, according to Gary Tang, a Los Angeles-based spokesman for the IRS.
Zapara has been locked up since early this year in Los Angeles.
“We seized the house under the premise of securities fraud he may or may not be involved in,” Tang said.
He added that Tuesday’s search and seizure also involved agents of other federal divisions.
“We will review the evidence and proceed. The sale of the residence will go forward,” Tang said.
Tang wouldn’t disclose if the house was occupied, but he said anyone living there “can stay until we sell the house.”
He said if the case is decided in favor of the IRS, the house will be sold and the money will be placed in a forfeiture fund.
