Not only did the Waimea Menehunes dominate varsity competition last year, but the junior varsity squad also rolled. It compiled a 6-0 record.
The Waimea juniors (1-0) got right back to work Friday evening at Vidinha Stadium, putting together a 14-0 victory over Kaua’i in the teams’ opener.
In the spirit of last year’s impressive JV running backs, Rayson Cacal and Jordon Dizon – both currently playing vital roles at the varsity level – Austin Arthur and Bryson Brun scored touchdowns.
Arthur’s score came on a four-yard dash at the 1:47 mark of the second quarter. Aina Emayo added the extra point.
Brun scored at 3:18 of the fourth period, on a 10-yard run. Emayo again added the kick.
Kaua’i (0-1) faces Kapa’a in the Warriors’ opener Friday at 5 p.m. at Vidinha Stadium.
