Kaua’i County Police, other law enforcement agencies and the Army confiscated 8,462 marijuana plants throughout the island during a drug eradication project this week.
Police Inspector Melvin Morris said the plants, with an estimated value of $8.5 million, were taken from state land and privately-owned fields.
The plants, which ranged from the size of seedlings to five feet, will be destroyed, Morris said.
No arrests were made, he said.
Two helicopters were involved in the project, which began Tuesday and ended Friday.
Besides the local police and the Army, agencies that participated in the project and provided 20 personnel were the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the Hawai’i County, Honolulu and Maui police departments.
