From Champion Surfers Kelly Slater, Shane Dorian and Lisa Andersen to X-Files Creator Chris Carter and Quicksilver Chief Bob McKnight, the World’s best in surfing will gather to celebrate the Surfer Magazine Poll Winners. Six Kaua’i surfers are among ten up for the award of top surfer.

When: Tuesday, September 4, 2001, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: The Sun Theater 2200 E. Katella Avenue, Anaheim, Calif.
What: A wave of surfing legends, leaders and luminaries will gather to honor the worlds top 10 male and top five female surfers of the year, as selected by Surfer Magazines devoted readers.
Kudos will also be given to the surf stars, both behind and in front of the camera, from the years most outstanding surfing movies in categories like “Most Radical Maneuver,” “Best Tuberide,” “Worst Wipeout,” and “The Masochist.” Former Surf Magazine editor and X-Files creator Chris Carter will present the “Video of the Year” award.
Who: World champion surfers Kelly Slater, Shane Dorian and Lisa Andersen, along with such renowned wave hunters as Shaun Tomson, Wingnut from Endless Summer II and Corky Carroll are expected to partake in the festivities.
ESPN commentator Sal Masekela will host the evening, along with hero-in-trunks Peter King.
Background: The Surfer Magazine Poll is considered by many to be the primary standard for measuring surf stardom.
