The installation of a new drain on Rice Street in front of Ace Hardware should be complete by the end of the week, as the street’s massive improvement project continues.
Kaua’i County officials said Monday that drain installation will continue next week along Rice, moving toward Hardy Street.
Traffic will be restricted to one lane where the drain is being installed, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Installation of a manhole for access to electrical systems also is continuing this week near Umi Street, moving in the direction of Kuhio Highway. Motorists can expect temporary traffic diversions between Hardy Street and the highway for the remainder of this week, officials said.
While Rice Street is being ripped apart for the new, wider roadway and other changes, county Department of Water workers will take advantaqe of the holes in the road to inspect water pipelines along the route, said Ernest Lau, department manager.
