Replacement of a water line along Lawa’i Road from Kukui’ula Bay to Spouting Horn Park in Po’ipu has begun, one of the key projects identified by the Kaua’i County Water Department to help strengthen the island’s water system.
Koga Engineering and Construction, awarded a $574,000 contract for the improvements, is expected to complete them by November.
The new water line will improve water service for Koloa residents and water flow for fire protection, according to Kymn Solchaga, Water Department spokeswoman.
Work calls for replacing 2,880 lineal feet of water pipes ranging from 1.5 to 4 inches in diameter with ductile iron water pipes that are 8 inches in diameter. The work also includes installation of fire hydrants.
Traffic will be disrupted on Lawa’i Road and a planned water outage will be scheduled when the new pipeline is connected, Solchaga said.
