Lana Rosa has resigned as executive director of Kaua’i Senior Centers Inc.
Rosa, who was with the non-profit senior centers group for 20 years, stepped down to join United Way as a coordinator of special events. She’ll start her new job next Wednesday.
“I believe I can do more for the island by moving on to United Way,” she said.
Her resignation was announced by KSC’s board of directors.
Jose Bulatao, president of the board, said the organization is considering “options” before a replacement is found for Rosa.
“There is a possibility of finding a replacement, independent contracting for different programs or activities that we may take up, or a working board,” Bulatao said.
During her time with KSC, Rosa served as a senior activity manager at Waimea Senior Center, activity manager at all the neighborhood centers on Kaua’i, program director for senior programs and lead coordinator for the bowling and softball leagues. She became executive director of KSC last year.
Dolores “Dolly” DeCosta, a member of the board of Kaua’i Senior Citizens Softball League Association, said seniors will miss Rosa.
Rosa was instrumental in soliciting private funds to maintain services for senior citizens who participated in KSC programs, DeCosta said.
“She has always been there for us,” DeCosta said. “We would meet at night and she is there, even though she wasn’t paid to be there.”
Rosa said she wants to stay connected to the seniors in the KSC programs and that they can call her at 245-6128.
