From TGI Reports
Kaua’i Inline Hockey Association’s 14-and-under team, Na Koa Kaua’i, barely lost in overtime in the finals at the state championship in June.
Still, the team was invited to participate in the national championship to be held in Chicago, Ill., August 1-5.
And that’s exactly what it’s going to do.
Last year’s Kaua’i state champion 14-and-under team was unable to attend the national competition for financial reasons.
This year’s team, comprised of some of the same players, decided to represent Kaua’i and the state, and get a chance to play against other top teams from around the country.
Na Koa Kaua’i is comprised of top players from Kaua’i’s YMCA Inline Hockey League that ended its season in May.
Team members are Ty Akama, Alohi Costa, Aaron Fujimoto, Emily Goodnight, Chase LaMadrid- Engel, Jacob Pierce, Wren Perdue, Matthew Punua, Darren Shimanuki, Ryan Shimanuki, Travis Taketa, and Tyson Wakayama.
Mike Goodnight is Na Koa Kaua’i’s coach.
The Embassy Vacation Resort – Poipu Point and General Manager Lyle Otsuka are a major team sponsor.
The resort will be subsidizing the team uniforms and providing hotel accommodations while in Chicago.
