The sex assault trial of Pacifico Claro was set to begin this morning in the Fifth Circuit Courtroom of Judge Clifford Nakea.
According to Kaua’i Chief Deputy Prosecutor Craig De Costa, Claro’s victim was a minor.
The charges include a Class A felony and Claro could face as much as 20 years in prison if convicted by a jury of his peers.
De Costa said Judge Nakea has cleared the court calendar to complete Claro’s trial expeditiously while an interpreter is available.
The defendant speaks Llocano, a language of the Philippines.
