Less than a week after it went up, the Web site begun by the mother of one of two young men accused of attacking a gay campsite at Polihale Beach State Park, has been temporarily dismantled.
Nancy Carolan, mother of 18-year-old Eamonn de Carolan, said her son’s attorney, Mark Zenger of Honolulu, asked her to “shut down the Web site.”
Eamonn de Carolan and his lifelong friend Orien Macomber, 19, remain incarcerated at Kaua’i Community Correctional Center in lieu of $250,000 bail each.
The duo are charged with attempted murder and felony terroristic threatening and face – if convicted – sentences of life in prison. They are accused of attempting to set two occupied tents afire and other acts of violence.
The incidents took place early on the morning of May 26 after the youths had each had much beer and marijuana.
No one was seriously injured.
Nancy Carolan, of Koloa, said she received offers of donations and sympathetic e-mails before taking the site down.
She has also strenuously claimed that the two “boys” in jail are not homophobic.
Testimonies of the various campers at Polihale during the attack do not reflect the same view of the two teenagers.
The next hearing for de Carolan and Macomber takes place in Fifth Circuit Court Tuesday morning when they are expected to enter pleas to the charges against them.
