Port Allen harbor plan discussed
A public meeting on the mini-master plan for the Port Allen small-boat harbor is scheduled for Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Hanapepe United Church of Christ.
The meeting is being arranged by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources’ Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation.
Commercial navigation

The Coast Guard has proposed changing its regulations to allow commercial vessels to use an electronic charting and navigation system as their primary means of navigation.
The change may reduce the potential for human error by providing a continuous update of a vessel’s position, officials said.
The Coast Guard is seeking public comment on the proposed new rule, which is published in the Federal Register and can be viewed at www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/fed/reg/a010502c.html.
State budget
official gets new post
Wayne Kimura has been appointed by Governor Ben Cayetano as state comptroller of the Department of Accounting and General Services.
Kimura was the state’s deputy budget director the past two years. He has also worked as a researcher for the lieutenant governor’s office and the Legislature.
He replaces RaySato, who retired in April.
