Hyatt Regency Kaua’i Resort & Spa received a Hawai’i Visitors & Convention Bureau Keep it Hawai’i Award recently for its annual Hawaiiana festival The resort’s Seventh Annual Hawaiiana Festival was given a Certificate of Merit in the events category.
Keep it Hawai’i recognizes individuals, associations and the business community for outstanding efforts to preserve and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture. This year celebrates the 10th anniversary of the awards program.
The awards are presented to those whose efforts best exemplify their commitment to keeping things Hawaiian.
In the fall of last year, the Hyatt Regency Kaua’i Resort & Spa hosted its Seventh Annual Hawaiiana Festival, E ho’i mai i ka piko (return to the source).
The festival day included a series of classical Hawaiian protocol ceremonies, in addition to an array of Hawaiian cultural activities, and a traditional Hawaiian pa’ina (meal) buffet.
The theme of the festival, E ho’i mai i ka piko (return to the source), was developed by a group of mea ho’okipa (employees) to serve as a reminder to search the past for guidance and answers.
It was this assemblage from the Hyatt that spent over six months seeking knowledge, spirit, and positive energy to prepare the festival’s program. The group’s goal was to impart a glimpse into the high protocol way of life while also sharing contemporary Hawaiian experiences.
