Boys Basketball
Kapa’a’s Rhyan Greenleaf was the choice for KIF boys basketball player of the year. With a smooth style around the hoop and consistent play, the senior co-captain was an easy selection for the 2001 honor. Standing just over 6-foot, Greenleaf led the KIF in scoring and was near the top of the heap in rebounds per game. He was instrumental in leading the Warriors to both the KIF championship and a positive showing at the state tournament.
Kapa’a coach Michael Ban was named KIF coach of the year. The fourth-year coach guided the Warriors through a trying season, yet still managed to get them on track in time to procure the KIF championship.

Boys Soccer
Kapa’a goalie Graham Kovarik has been named the player of the year for boys soccer. The junior was instrumental in leading the Warriors to the Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation championship and subsequent berth in the state playoffs. His most impressive outing may have come in the final KIF contest of the season. There, he authored a 1-0 shutout victory over Kaua’i High School with a dazzling array of saves, some of greater risk than others. His willingness to abandon his comfort zone and turn aggressor against the charging offensive player proved vital to his success.
The KIF coach of the year is Island School’s Sean Magoun. Though unable to crack the win column, Island School always played with heart and steadily improved as the season progressed.

For her speed, quickness and attacking style, Kaua’i’s Amber Santos has been named the KIF player of the year. The sophomore paced the Red Raiders to a KIF title, as they held off the Kapa’a Warriors.
Santos was one of 10 Kaua’i players to make the all-star roster, only one of whom was a senior.
For his role in guiding the Red Raiders to the state playoffs, Dennis Chan was named the KIF coach of the year.

Taking home the award for KIF player of the year was Waimea’s Albette Nawai. The junior was crucial to her teams success, as she mowed through opposing batswomen frequently.
However, much of her success, and perhaps a portion of her award, should be attributed to the defense that played behind her. Nawai forced many a batter into ground balls that her infield swiftly fielded and turned into outs.
Waimea’s Pat Baniaga was named KIF coach of the year.

Unofficial KIF all-stars were selected for swimming by officials who worked the meets. Again, these all-stars are not sanctioned by the KIF, but were rather chosen by officials in attendance at every meet.

The male swimmer of the year was Waimea’s Fred Flores.
