A representative of the Hawaii State Teachers Association said progress was made last night in resolving the ongoing strik by public school teachers.
Friday night’s negotiations lasted until 4:45 a.m.
Talks began Friday at 1 p.m. at the Federal Building. The strike began on April 5.
Retroactive pay for teachers that some say is due from 1999 is a point of contention.
Public schools will be closed Monday, except on Ni’ihau, even if a settlement is reached over the weekend.
The state Department of Education is planning how to reopen schools. The strike must end by next week to avoid a 20-missed-school-day deadline which requires students to make-up the missed days.
