The San Francisco 49ers can’t seem to stay away from the Hawaiian islands. April 8, former 49ers legend Jerry Rice traveled through the island chain in support of his Jerry Rice 127 Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to assist the children of Hawai’i.
Now, the State of Hawai’i Organization of Police Officers, SHOPO, will be hosting a “Niner Benefit Softball Game,” Sunday, April 22, at Vidinha Stadium. The contest will pit players and former players in the San Francisco organization against Kaua’i County police officers. The game is set for 1 p.m.
During the game, the 49ers will sign autographs and there will also be an appearance by the Oakland Raiderette cheerleaders.
Players slated to attend include: Jesse Sapolu, Ahmed Plummer, Fred Beasley, Lance Schulters, Jason Webster, Gary Plummer, Lee Woodall, Guy McIntyre, Johnnie Harris and Tim Harris.
In addition to the softball game on Kaua’i, the 49ers will compete in basketball games April 17, 20 and 21 on the Big Island, Maui and Oahu respectively. All of those contests are scheduled for 7 p.m. In the last five years, the SHOPO tour has raised over $450,000 for various causes.
