Kaua’i Women rally to earn money for research
The Kaua’i Women’s Golf Club held its second-annual “Rally for a Cure” golf tournament at PuaKea Golf Course on March 31.
The “Rally for a Cure” program is an awareness and early-detection campaign intended to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Research Foundation. The foundation is the leading private fund-raiser for breast cancer research. The entry fee of $15 per person raised $1,160, in addition to donations, for the Komen Foundation.
This year, additional fund-raisers were held to support the Kaua’i unit of the American Cancer Society, and the participants of this year’s “Rally” donated over $700 to our own Kaua’i unit. The Kaua’i Women’s Golf Club is applying for matching grant monies from local companies to support their endeavor in raising funds for the Kaua’i unit.
The format of the golf tournament was best ball.
The team of Sharron Weber and Brenda Sameshima took first place with a best-ball net of 64.
Second place went to the team of Carole Wells and Sandy Burchett with a net of 67. There was a four-way tie for third.
Lehua Wise won the closest-to-the-pin competition, landing her ball five feet, eleven inches from the pin on the eighth hole.
Along with all of the sponsors who donated prizes to the cause, the Kaua’i Women’s Golf Club thanks all of the volunteered who helped make the event a success.
