Kaua’i boys, girls yet to face serious challenge
The Kaua’i boys shot an outstanding collective score Friday at Poipu Bay Resort Golf Course to secure their fourth consecutive Kaua’i Interscholastic Federation victory.
Two Red Raiders, Kurt Inouye and Darrin Furusho, fired a 4-under-par 68, as Kaua’i’s competing foursome recorded a 282 overall. That was good for a 70.5 average, a full six strokes under par.
Waimea was the next closest challenger with an overall score of 332. Kapa’a finished in third with a 356.
Rachel Kyono again led the KIF girls with a 68 of her own.
Friday was the first KIF golf match that featured a team other than Kaua’i boasting enough players to be officially scored. Kapa’a fielded the required three golfers, but did not pose a threat to the Red Raiders.
Waimea was not represented in the girls competition.
Should a resolution to the projected teacher’s strike come about, the next KIF golf match will be on April 7 at Wailua Golf Course. Action would kick-off at 11:54 a.m.
