Adult tennis action is coming soon. The Poipu Kai Tennis Championships, an annual Adult Class tournament, will be held at Poipu Kai Tennis Club April 13-15. Events include men’s and women’s singles and doubles in classes 2.5 to 5.0. Participation in these events will count toward state and national rankings. Entry fee is $20 per person. Here are the results of March 24-25 action in the Kaua’i District of the United States Tennis Association Hawai’i Pacific Region Adult Mixed League.
In 6.0 matches, Kaua’i Klassic held off the Hurricanes, sweeping two matches. Bruce and Collete Savage blew away Calvin Francisco and Debbie Gunning 6-0, 6-2; and Alex and Terumi Hernandez got the best of Andrew and Sharon Vea 6-4, 6-4. Kaua’i Klassic currently lead the 6.0 division.
In the 7.0 matches, So What won all three of its battles against Souvenir. Chris Webster and Rosemary Smythe defeated Strom Gaditano and Helen Bice 3-6, 6-4, 1-0; Ron Garlie and Vikki Colacino squeaked by Marvin Nomi and Beverly Francisco 6-7, 7-6, 1-0; and Neal Zaslow and Lore Lizotte upended Juan Lorenzo and Tracy Hosaka 6-2, 6-4. So What is in second place in the 7.0 division.
In the 8.0 matches, Tsunami drowned the Goonies. Neal Zaslow and Sandy Webster were defeated by Jim Dorman and Diane Treskon 4-6, 1-6. But then Steve Hunt and Beverly Francisco found victory 6-2, 6-3 over Clyde Fujikawa and Loutoa Zoller, while Jimmy Viado and Darlene Shimatsu beat Michael Kline and Helen Bice 6-4, 6-1. The Goonies still lead the 8.0 division.
