Kaua`i County Police detectives were back at Kalalau Beach Wednesday searching for more clues in the death of an unidentified man.
The body, said to be that of a white male in his late 30s or early 40s, was discovered early Tuesday morning at the beach. An Air-One helicopter pilot saw an S.O.S. in the sand and called his dispatcher, who then notified police.
The man had not been identified Wednesday, and an autopsy was slated for today.
Police autopsies on Kaua`i are performed by Dr. Anthony Manoukian, who is based on Maui and is flying in to do this one today.
Authorities would not speculate on the cause of the unknown male’s death.
“At this time we are classifying it as an unexplained death,” police chief George Freitas said.
